Buddhism was brought in by Prince Shotoku and was very good with the people. Buddhism developed many sects. Some of the popular ones were the Tendai and Zen Buddhism. Tendai focused more on the study of texts. Zen believed that each individuals had something precious about them. The Japanese people adopted a sect of Buddhism whose beliefs and practices best met their needs. As the years passed Zen was by far the most popular sect. It focused on self discipline, simplicity, and meditation. It focused on inner peace rather than salvation. Many type of people like and enjoy Zen Buddhism for a certain reason. Samurais fancied Zen, because they thought it would give them inner peace so they can focus more in war and let go the hate inside. Artists liked Zen because of it's unique simplicity. Artists used simplicity in their art by using only black ink and thick paint strokes. Buddhism overall developed into many popular sects over time.
